Burgundy Wine you know what it tastes like. Now see where the wine comes.
"Adventures in Burgundy" is a beautiful, exciting and unique photographic memoir; an impression, a valentine, a shred of history from Burgundy's Golden Age.

"Adventures in Burgundy" is the fourth book by Lincoln Russell, a professional photographer for more than 30 years; with a foreword by Aubert de Villaine and an afterword by Guillaume Marquis d'Angerville, two of Burgundy's most distinguished winegrowers, and an introduction by Allen Meadows, one of the most respected writers on Burgundy's wines.

FROM THE FOREWORD

How does a man describe the woman he loves? It is an impossible task. Because what you really love is inside her. It is in a smile, in a gesture of the hand, in a perfume she left in the room. It cannot be expressed in words. It is the same thing with the great wines of Burgundy. They elude words. Lincoln came to Burgundy one day and he fell in love. Like so many of us, he was eager to explain why. But he has an advantage over most of us. He's a photographer; a talented photographer. He does not need words. With his heart full of love for our C?, he went around our vineyards, wineries and villages and, unhurriedly, like a child picking up shells on a beach, he made photographs.

AVANT-PROPOS

FROM THE INTRODUCTION

To his credit, and the Burgundians' lasting admiration, Lincoln spent the time getting to know his subject. When you see Lincoln's work, there's no doubt that Burgundy has clutched him to its breast. It's clear that Lincoln has captured Burgundy's divine spirit. If you look closely, you can feel the presence of the generations of monks and vignerons who created the Burgundy we know today.

I was honored when he asked me to write this introduction and now that I have seen the astonishing quality of his work, I am even more honored to be a part of this amazing compendium.

Thank you, Lincoln, for capturing Burgundy like I've never seen it before.

INTRODUCTION

FROM THE PREFACE

Why don't you come to Burgundy, stay in our guest house, and do a book on the harvest? suggested renowned winegrower, Etienne de Montille, as soon as we met, skiing with mutual friends in the French Alps in January, 2005. What a great idea, I thought, not realizing it might be just a pleasantry.

My circle of friends just grew naturally, like the vines. Without any plan of my own, I was passed around Burgundy like a beach ball. So this is not a "who's who" or anything comprehensive. It's just an impression; a valentine.

Like fellow Bostonian, Benjamin Franklin, I was exceedingly comfortable and well cared for in France. And it was a great honor to be served extraordinary wines. I'm forever indebted to my friends for opening their hearts and their homes.

PREFACE
